South Korea has the 11th largest economy in the world right now and Koreans very much see English as their key to future growth. Over 740 000 foreigners are estimated to be living in South Korea and more come in every year.
As a newcomer to South Korea you will benefit directly from the influence of your predecessors. Western restaurants and even western products are relatively easy to find. There are also lots of health clubs, martial art studios and volunteer organisations that welcomes foreigners as members, to say nothing about the plentiful night clubs, bars and karaoke clubs lining the streets. Bored is the one thing that you surely will not be!
Transporation is also readily available and Korea is concidered to be the hub that connects Asian countries such as Japan, China, Thailand, and Singapore.
The best thing about South Korea however is it’s people. Koreans might be shy at first but as you get to know them you will find them to be generous, warm hearted and loyal. They make great friends.
Teaching
More than 300 English teachers have been wanted for English education in South Korea.
These positions are available at the bigger cities as well as in the smaller Korean villages. Teachers will conduct classes at private institutes and at public schools for Primary and Secondary School students. English teachers are bound to be satisfied with their salaries and working environments as they compare very favorably to those of other Asian countries.
Housing and safety
Housing is readily available and very affordable. The South Korean country is considered to be a safe and secure area to live in.
While South Koreans are very aware of their neighbors to the north, the hope for a peaceful reunification someday is alive and well and the north is rarely thought about as a realistic threat. The biggest threat to your safety is probably traffic accidents as the Korean traffic laws are usually considered to be mere suggestions. You should therefore wear seat belts at alltimes and be aware of your surroundings when crossing the street.
